WESTFORD — The Westford Fire Department has announced the promotion of Matt Svatek to deputy fire chief, according to a news release.
Deputy Chief Svatek has served at the fire department since 2008, when he joined as a Firefighter EMT.
A year into his service, Svatek was selected as one of the first firefighters in Westford to attend paramedic school, which enhanced the department’s emergency medical response capabilities and expanded lifesaving services for residents, according to the town.
He moved up multiple positions during his career, being promoted to lieutenant in 2022 and captain in 2024.
Over the years, Svatek has contributed to several departmental advancements. He assisted with upgrading the town’s radio communications systems, helped design and construct the Boston Road fire station and has served on the department’s apparatus purchasing and design committee.
“Matt’s knowledge, initiative and commitment have made a lasting impact on the department,” said Chief Michael Denehy in a news release, “I look forward to working alongside him as we continue to meet the growing needs of the Town of Westford and advance the mission of the Westford Fire Department.”
Svatek officially began his new role on May 5.
