WESTFORD — One person was hospitalized following a multivehicle crash on Interstate 495 in Westford on Monday, which shut down two lanes of the highway and caused heavy traffic delays during the evening commute.
According to Westford Fire Chief Mike Denehy, the person transported to the hospital suffered minor injuries, after a tractor-trailer and five other cars crashed in the northbound side of the highway. The vehicles, which sustained moderate damage, had to be towed away.
The crash occurred around 3 p.m. Monday, just past Exit 83 (Boston Road, Westford).
Both the Westford Fire Department and Massachusetts State Police responded to the scene.
WestfordCAT photos from the scene showed a Westford Fire Department firetruck and Massachusetts State Police cruiser at the scene, with the damaged tractor-trailer pulled over in the median of the highway.
The two closed northbound lanes were reopened later Monday evening.
