WESTFORD — One person was hospitalized in Westford on Thursday, after their car crashed into a telephone pole, which toppled over and closed part of Acton Road for several hours.
According to the Westford Police Department, the single-car crash occurred at 12:55 p.m. Thursday near 105 Acton Road, when the driver of the car crashed into a telephone pole, causing it to fall down onto the road.
The Westford Fire Department said EMS transported the driver to the trauma center at Lahey Hospital in Burlington due to the nature of their injuries, and their condition is currently unknown.
Police said the portion of Acton Road between Griffin Road and the Chelmsford town line was closed as a result of the crash, as the fallen telephone pole made the road impassable.
Both the Westford Public Works and National Grid Electric were with officers and firefighters at the scene, police said, in order to clear the crash, repair the pole and set up a detour.
Police said Acton Road was opened back up around 7:15 p.m. Thursday once National Grid completed the repairs.
The cause of the crash is not yet clear and remains under investigation by police.
