Flags fly at half-staff in honor of WWII veteran

WESTFORD — Flags at all state buildings, including Town Hall, will fly at half-staff on Monday in honor of World War II veteran Alfred Thomas Langevin.

Gov. Maura Healey ordered that the United States and Commonwealth of Massachusetts flags be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings on Nov. 10 from sunrise to sunset to recognize Langevin.

U.S. Army Private Alfred Thomas Langevin of East Weymouth served in the United States Army, Company E, 2nd Battalion, 109th Infantry Regiment, 28th Infantry Division. He was killed in action during the Battle of Hürtgen Forest in November 1944. His remains will be laid to rest at Fairmount Cemetery in Weymouth on Monday.

This observance of Private Langevin’s service will coincide with the ongoing half-staff display for former Vice President Richard “Dick” Cheney, whose interment is scheduled for Nov. 20.

Gov. Healey’s order applies to the main buildings of public institutions, other state-owned or state-controlled buildings and all state military installations.
