WESTFORD — Two men arrested last year in connection with an incident involving unlicensed firearms in Westford were found guilty on Monday following a trial in Ayer District Court.
On Nov. 10, William McCarthy, 22, of Fall River, and Anthony Salazar, 21, of Westford, were each convicted of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, according to a statement released by the Westford Police Department.
The charges stemmed from a 2024 incident on Tech Valley Drive, where officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the area. During their investigation, they recovered two unlicensed firearms. McCarthy and Salazar were arrested at the scene.
Following their arrests, both were charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, along with additional criminal offenses. The case was tried before Judge Mehta, both men were sentenced to 18 months in the House of Corrections, followed by one year of probation.
In the statement, the Westford Police Department praised the work of the responding officers and their contributions during the trial.
“The Westford Police Department would like to commend all officers involved in this incident for their bravery and swift actions upon their response to this call, along with their detailed and professional testimony at trial,” the department said. “These convictions demonstrate the importance of continued enforcement and prosecution of firearm offenses that threaten community safety.”
