WESTFORD — Westford’s state representative James Arciero and state senator John Cronin announced on Monday that $100,000 has been included in the FY26 state budget to support upgrades to audiovisual equipment at the J.V. Fletcher Library.

The funding will help Westford’s public library enhance its ability to host high-quality programming and support open, hybrid, community meeting spaces. This will modernize the library’s audiovisual infrastructure and improve accessibility for residents, helping to ensure the library can continue to serve Westford resident for generations.

Upgrading the library’s audiovisual equipment will expand its capacity to host educational programs, public meetings, and community events, including hybrid events which allow residents to participate remotely.

Arciero, who is part of the Westford Delegation, said that securing the funding as part of the FY26 budget process reflects an ongoing commitment to invest in local infrastructure and to ensure that Westford’s public institutions have the resources needed to serve residents effectively.

“Libraries like the J.V. Fletcher Library are the heart of our communities,” Arciero said. “My family and I have countless hours at the library over the years, and I know firsthand how important it is as a resource for Westford families. After the completion of renovations, these technology upgrades will make it even more accessible and better equipped to serve the needs of our community.”

According to Arciero, the goal of these improvements is to help ensure the library can continue to serve as essential community hub, not only for books and educational resources, but for lifelong learning, civic engagement, and community connection. The funding also reinforces the importance of maintaining a modern, accessible public space that promotes inclusion, learning, and community engagement.

Following the announcement of the new funds, Cronin thanked the Westford community for their support and representative Arciero’s work in securing the funding.

“Ensuring that local libraries have the resources they need to keep residents engaged, informed, and connected is one of the most worthwhile investments we can make,” Cronin said. “During a time where freedom of expression and information is increasingly under siege, it is more important than ever that we set our libraries up for success. I’m grateful to Rep. Arciero for his leadership on this issue and look forward to continuing to work together to keep Westford reading, learning, and growing.”

The library is currently undergoing a $32.5 million renovation project, which will include a major expansion to the building, accessibility upgrades, more meeting spaces, and sustainability goals. The renovation project is funded by state and local funds and foundation efforts.

Construction began in mid-2025, with the library being temporarily relocated. The renovated library is expected to reopen in late 2026 or 2027.
