Director’s Corner: The steel beams continue to go up at 50 Main Street, including the beam signed by state and town officials, Library staff, designers, architects, and construction personnel.
Annual Town Reports: Copies of the annual town report are now available for distribution at the Library. Pick one up on your next visit to 515 Groton Rd.
Adult Programs
Virtual: Macy’s Flower Show Through the Years, Tuesday, April 7, 2:00 p.m. What began in 1946 at Macy’s in San Francisco to promote a fragrance has become a major annual two-week event. The Macy’s Flower Show welcomes spring with beautiful flowers, trees, and plants from around the world, all blooming together. It is a delight to experience. The floral sculptures are truly works of art. Each year, the show has a different theme and is a major undertaking with many months of planning. Enjoy the beautiful sights from past flower shows at the Macy’s by Herald Square in New York. Led by retired high school teacher Sheila Taub, who now presents illustrated talks on her travels at libraries, senior centers, community centers, and cruise ships. Register here. Adult Nonfiction Book Club: Tuesday, April 7, 6:30 p.m., 515 Groton Rd. We will discuss The Invention of Nature: Alexander von Humboldt’s New World, by Andrea Wulf. Copies are available at the Main Desk. The e-book is available to download from Libby and Overdrive. The audiobook is also available to download from Hoopla. No reservations needed. Virtual: Life Lessons From The Happiest People On Earth, Wednesday, April 8, 7:00 p.m. Every year, the World Happiness Report is dominated by the same countries: Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Sweden, and Norway. What is it about these Scandinavian countries that makes living there so pleasant? Learn to improve your own life by embracing the practices of hygge and lykke (Danish coziness and happiness); lagom (Swedish balance); sisu (Finnish determination); Niksen (Dutch disassociation); Þetta reddast (Icelandic optimism); and friluftsliv (Norwegian outdoor life). Led by Jez Layman, a librarian, public speaker, and full-time plant mom. She has taught at over 100 libraries, colleges, organizations, and community centers. Register here. Virtual: Spring Cooking Refresh with Empty Nest Kitchen, Tuesday, April 14th 7p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Spring is the perfect time to refresh your cooking habits. In this lively and practical online cooking class, culinary medicine educator and chef Christine Van Bloem will demonstrate how to create light, Mediterranean-inspired meals that feel satisfying, seasonal, and completely doable for one or two people. Virtual Job Search Help for 50 & OVER –Networking 2.0; Wednesday, April 15, 9:30-11:30 a.m. The Massachusetts Library Collaborative’s 50+ Job Seekers Group meets on biweekly the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., via Zoom. If you are unemployed and actively looking, underemployed, seeking a new career direction, re-entering the job market after a long employment gap, or recently retired and looking for your “Encore Career”, this networking group program is perfect for you! Dungeons & Dragons: Thursday, April 9 at 4-5:30 p.m., 515 Groton Rd. For grades 5-12. All experience levels welcome! Join us for the last session of our campaign with DM Mark! Bring your own completed character sheet or we will be happy to provide one. Registration is required.
Young Adult Advisory Board: Wednesday, April 15, at 6:30-7:30 p.m., 515Groton Rd. For grades 5-12. Are you a teen who would like to help make decisions about what goes on at the library? Join YAAB and have your say in programming, community outreach, book purchasing suggestions, decor, and more! This event qualifies for community service hours. Registration is suggested. Playdough Palooza!: Tuesday, April 21,10:30-11:30 a.m., Room 106, Roudenbush Community Center, 65 Main St. Come play with colorful playdough together! We have special tools and toys to squish, cut, stamp, and roll the dough. Please be advised that the playdough does include gluten. This program is for children ages 3 and up. Three & Up Storytime: Every Tuesday through April 7, 10:30—11:15 a.m. Westford Recreation Department at Roudenbush Community Center – 3rd floor, 65 Main Street. Join us on Tuesday mornings for our preschool storytime for ages 3 and up. This fun program is full of interactive stories, rhymes, fingerplays, puppets, and songs. Time for Tots Storytime: Every Wednesday through April 8, 10:30—11:00 a.m. Westford Recreation Department at Roudenbush Community Center – 3rd floor, 65 Main Street. Our Time for Tots Storytime is a 30-minute interactive story time experience for our young library users and their caregivers. Join us for stories, songs, movement, and puppets that are developmentally appropriate for children from 15 months to 3 years of age. Enjoy time together with fellow parents, caregivers, and little ones to learn, play, and develop language, early literacy, and motor skills. Baby Lapsit: Every Thursday through April 9,10:30—11:00 a.m. Westford Recreation Department at Roudenbush Community Center – 3rd floor, 65 Main Street. Baby Lapsit is a 25-minute interactive story time experience for our youngest library users and their caregivers. Join us for stories, songs, rhymes, puppets, and bounces that are developmentally appropriate for children from birth to when they begin walking. This Lapsit program is just for you and the baby! Enjoy time together with other parents, caregivers, and babies to learn, play, and develop language, early literacy, and motor skills. Come prepared to sit on the floor one-on-one with your baby in your lap. This program is designed for newborns through pre-walking babies. Questions? Please email us at youthservices@westfordma.gov.
