The New Year has many people working on their resolutions, one of which is to eat better. But where does one find good food in a culture of fast, processed, and chemically-laden foods? The newly created Westford-based Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF) chapter seeks to share excellent information and resources for fresh, quality foods and holistic health practices. Two certified health coaches from Westford have come together to launch the chapter: Kathy Lynch and Linda Cox. Says Ms. Lynch, “I was a chapter leader in Southern California before moving to Westford. I am eager to continue my work as a chapter leader to build local community around quality foods and sustainable food production. Linda and I have searched the area for quality whole foods using organic growing practices and have listed them on our web site. It really is an extensive and helpful list for our community. Part of our efforts will be to meet the area farmers and food producers who have a similar passion for healthful nourishment.” Co-leader, Ms. Cox adds, “I’ve learned over the past 16 years that there is a different path for whole body wellness. I’ve learned to build my lifestyle around knowing where to get healing foods and to enjoy health practices in my life and my family’s life that engage in thriving, not just surviving.”
WAPF is a nonprofit charitable organization, co-founded by Sally Fallon Morell and nutritionist, Mary G. Enig, PhD, to disseminate the research of nutrition pioneer Dr. Weston A. Price, whose studies of isolated, non-industrialized peoples established the parameters of human health and determined the optimum characteristics of human diets. The Weston A. Price Foundation is dedicated to restoring nutrient-dense foods to the American diet through education, research and activism. The Foundation supports accurate nutrition instruction, organic and biodynamic farming, pasture-feeding of livestock, community-supported farms, honest and informative labeling, prepared parenting and nurturing therapies. Dr. Price (1870-1948), a Cleveland dentist, was deeply interested in finding out the cause of dental problems such as caries, crowded and crooked teeth, malformed facial structure, etc. He traveled the world studying primitive and civilized cultures and found out that the diets between the two populations were vastly different in nutritional content. He found that those people who had healthy mouths (and bodies), had nutrient-dense diets originating from their natural surroundings. Those populations with poor health ate a diet of modern civilization including white flour, white sugar, highly processed, and nutrient-poor foods.
The chapter launch gathering, “Meet Your Local Farmers & Foodies!,” is open to the public. It will be a social gathering of local farmers, gardeners, nutrition and health enthusiasts who value whole, nutrient-dense foods. The event will be held on February 27, 2016 from 1:00-3:00 pm at the J.V. Fletcher Library, Mary Atwood Room. For more information, visit http://chapters.westonaprice.
