IT’S HERE! The Friends of the Library October Book Sale weekend Friday, Oct. 14, Saturday, Oct. 15 and Sunday, Oct. 16.  A Friends Members Only Sale will be held on Friday evening from 6:30 to 9 p.m.  A Friends membership (which may be purchased at the door) is necessary for attending the preview sale.  The entire public is invited Saturday for an all-day sale, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to the special half price extravaganza on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Featured Staff Book Review, Flight Patterns by Karen White, recommended by Judy Madsen. White’s latest book involves long held family secrets, Limoges China and beekeeping. Georgia Chambers, an expert on fine china, left her family home in Florida amid family turmoil to start a new life in New Orleans.  After a thirteen year absence she returns home to work on identifying a unique china pattern and to try and mend her broken relationship with her sister Maisy. Colorful characters abound inside the matrix of the ups and downs of family life. A satisfying read, and as a bonus, I learned quite a bit about beekeeping!

Cookbook Book Club: Martha Stewart’s Dinner at Home, Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. The cookbook book club is dedicated to exploring cookbooks and sampling new recipes.  Copies of Dinner at Home are available for check out at the Main Desk.  If you would like to bring a dish from the cookbook (not required to participate), please contact Sarah Regan in the Information Services Department at 978-399-2309.  The cookbook book club meets monthly on the third Tuesday of each month.  No registration required.

Adult Coloring Party: Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. The adult coloring parties are now held once a month. Explore the latest trend in relaxation – adult coloring books!  Specially designed adult coloring pages and colored pencils will be provided.  Light refreshments will be served at this Friends funded event.  Drop in.

Monday Murder Mystery Club: Monday, Oct. 24 at 10:30 a.m. This month we will discuss Cold Dish by Craig Johnson; this title is the first in a series (written by Johnson) that the popular TV show “Longmire” is based on. Copies of Cold Dish are available for check out at the Main Desk. Newcomers are always welcome to drop in and join our lively group conversations.

The Library Book Clubs’ Reading Lists: Librarians often hear patrons exclaim, “I can’t make the (choose one of our Book Discussion Groups) but I am reading all the books on their selection list.” We are always thrilled to hear this. Hard copies of the book selection brochures for the Library Book Discussion Group (that meets on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m.) and of the Monday Murder Mystery Club (that meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 10:30 a.m.) are always available to pick up at the Library. Further, they can be be accessed from the Library web site. Just go to the Library’s web site homepage and click on “Programs” from the horizontal menu at the top of the page. Next, from the vertical menu of the left hand side of the Programs page you have the option to click on the name of either book club (and the Cookbook Book Club as well) to see the Reading Lists. The Book Clubs’ meeting times are listed as well. Newcomers are always welcome to drop in.
