Central Fire Station
The existing Center Fire Station on Main Street will be replaced by a new one at Blake’s Hill and Boston Roads.

Selectmen awarded a construction contract for the new fire station to Castagna Construction of Newburyport on June 1.

The board based its 4 – 0 decision on the recommendation of the Permanent Town Building Committee members. Selectman Mark Kost was absent from the meeting.

In a memo dated May 31 to Town Manager Jodi Ross, PTBC Chairman Tom Mahanna said Castagna’s total bid was $8.767M.

Mahanna said the town had received six bids, ranging from $8.496M to $10.574.

“The bids submitted also included two add alternate items to install an epoxy coating on the equipment bay floor, and to install a concrete apron with radiant heating in front of the equipment bays,” he wrote. “The total of the add alternate items for the low bidder was $271K.”

The 20,344-square foot fire station with five bays and a training room will replace the existing one on Main Street next to Town Hall. The new location will be at Blake’s Hill and Boston Roads. Town Meeting voters approved the building in 2015.
