With Massachusetts restaurants banned from allowing diners to eat inside their establishment since Governor Charlie Baker’s order on March 15, we thought we’d check in with local owners to see how they’re doing with special Zoom editions of Back of the House.

Pam Sulka, manager and baker of Muffins on Main in Westford center, opened her shop in December of 2016 after Ellen Harde and her husband, Mike, bought the once Wright and Fletcher General Store in April of the same year.  WestfordCAT’s Patty Stocker spoke with Sulka about how the shop is faring during the COVID – 19 shutdown and she had some interesting things to share, including a letter she received from a Muffins on Main fan in Maryland whose son and daughter-in-law live in town. “Whenever I visit them, from Maryland, one of my first requests is to have a coffee and a pastry at your wonderful shop,” said Sulka. “I noticed you’re taking orders by phone, so enclosed is a check for you so that my son, Pat, may order delightful treats during this pandemic.”

Sulka also recalled the day the Hardes asked if she would like to open the muffin shop after they purchased the property at 40 Main St. “It took me about 2 1/2 seconds to say, ‘Yeah, sure,'” she said.

Sulka said she is thankful to the public who continues to purchase muffins, scones, and coffee from her shop. “Any way we can get you your muffin, we will be happy to do that,” she said.

Muffins on Main is open Tuesdays – Fridays from 6:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 7:30 a.m. through 2:30 p.m. They are offering curbside pick-up by phone or walk-in take out orders during the COVID-19 shutdown as well as delivery anywhere in Westford from 8:30 a.m. – 10 a.m.
