One of the key points addressed at Tuesday’s Select Board Meeting (Dec. 14) was that of a budget item proposed by the School Committee to hire an additional full-time, district-wide nurse for Covid-19 contact tracing. This request dovetails with the Health Department’s similar need for four additional contact tracers. All contact tracer items were approved.

Among the items that were put to a vote include a request to approve the Massachusetts School Building Authority’s proposal for the Roof Replacement Project at Lloyd G. Blanchard Middle School. The item was not passed.

Other agenda items voted on were the transfer of two Liquor Licenses; Empire Regency Hospitality LLC and Nabnasset Lake Country Club. Both items passed 5-0. Consent approvals for upcoming events were also voted on. The December 24 Christmas Eve Church Service at Cornerstone Congregational Church; AND the Apple Blossom Festival and Parade scheduled from May 4 thru May 14 were both passed 5-0 by the Board.

The Board also recognized two longtime town employees who announced their retirement. Patrol Officer David Welch, who served on the WPD for 26 years, will retire his badge on January 2, 2022. And Westford’s Human Resources Department’s longtime Administrative Assistant Bettianne Steffero will retire December 29 after 20 years of service in local government.
