The highlight of Monday’s Select Board Meeting was the announcement of Police Captain Victor Neal’s retirement. After 33 years on WPD, Neal will put away his badge for the last time on January 29, ending a stellar career of service to the community.

The Board members were joined in the virtual meeting by Neal himself, who demurred to the praise by each member as they recollected years of law enforcement and personal anecdotes. Chief Mark Chambers also Zoomed in to add his accolades.

“You will be missed,” member Andrea Peraner-Sweet said. Adding, “There are big shoes to fill now that you are gone.” Neal returned the salutations with positive reflections of his own, noting his continued affection for the town of Westford and its residents.

Also on the consent agenda was a vote for two separate event approvals. Good Pickins Farm sought a special license for a Valentine’s Day event, “In the Moo’d” which the board approved.

A separate item on the same Consent Agenda was for approval for “Earth Day Celebration” at the Town Common. Westford Climate Action was granted approval for the April 22, 2-6 p.m. event.

On the formal agenda was budgetary talk of the distribution of ARPA funds to various entities and projects town-wide. No vote was held but dispositions were discussed.
