Tuesday night’s 53-36 win by Westford Academy marked the first time ever the Ghosts have beaten the tough division rival, Cambridge Rindge and Latin. Led by senior Eddy Griffin’s 20 point, 8 rebound performance, the Ghosts improved to 6-1 on the young season.

Using disciplined and stifling interior defense, the Ghosts forced the Cambridge Falcons into a mostly perimeter game, creating a lopsided first period score of 18-4 which WA never relinquished. The second period was sloppy from both teams with copious turnovers but nonetheless saw Westford’s lead grow to 34-16 at halftime.

Senior co-captain Ethan Ewing sneaks through the Cambridge defense during Tuesday night’s basketball game, which the Ghosts won 53-36.

The crowd of about 150 inside the main gym at Westford Academy got a little uneasy when an inspired Falcons team emerged from the locker room, dominating the boards early in the second half and cut the home-team’s lead to just 7 points, 41-34.

Head coach Christopher Bramanti lays out a defensive strategy for his players at Tuesday night’s home game against Cambridge, which the Ghosts won 53-36.

But with contributions from Ethan Ewing 9 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists; William Bramanti 9 points and 3 rebounds; Jake Aylward, 5-9-3; Luke Krikorian, 3-4-6; and Rohun Voruganti, 3-2-2, the Ghosts took control of the fourth period to notch the victory and move to 4-0 in the Dual County League standings.

Westford will travel to Newton South for another tough matchup Friday night.
