The people of Westford and other towns in Massachusetts are not being served well by their state legislators. Local aid is consistently diminishing, causing pressure to raise local property taxes. Despite ample evidence that sales tax roll backs stimulate economic activity, Beacon Hill refuses to consider reducing this tax, making it literally impossible for local retail establishments to survive against cross border competitors. This also adds to local property tax pressure. Preventing the development of local businesses, means that the property tax burden in our municipalities will be increasingly foisted upon residential property owners.
Most recently, Beacon Hill seems poised to attack Home Rule targeting zoning. The recent MBTA zoning act and other affordable housing and carbon reduction initiatives seek to give the state more leverage in local zoning and code enforcement, areas that have remained relatively off limits for over fifty years. Why is this a problem? If the towns lose control of zoning and code enforcement, the value of your home could be placed at risk.
Massachusetts is also facing the potential of a severe revenue crisis as more and more people, primarily retirees, flee the state because of its high taxes. This by itself would be bad enough, but Beacon Hill remains cavalier in its spending, sinking billions into the failed MBTA, a failing state educational system and in a Medicaid system that is unsustainable. The frosting on this cake is the financial support the state has given to support illegal immigration, in deliberate violation of Federal law.
John Adams once said: “Ideology is the science of Idiots”. Ideological politics has been plaguing Massachusetts for decades, but it has only been recently that such politics has developed the political strength to effect drastic and perhaps even catastrophic change.
This situation needs to be reversed and the place to begin is in the Massachusetts legislature. Nick Pirro, a successful businessman, husband and father of two, has thrown his hat into this year’s state senate race, because he strongly believes that “common sense” not ideological doctrine must be restored on Beacon Hill. Nick wants to revitalize the state’s economy by reducing taxes and regulations; reduce waste in the burgeoning state budget, preserve local control of zoning, audit the state legislature, ensure high quality education for our children, support US immigration law and oppose late term abortions.
Nick will be running to represent the newly established Worcester-Middlesex Senatorial district of which Westford is now part. This is his first shot at politics and for a beginner he has cobbled together an excellent organization and is campaigning hard. Change is desperately needed on Beacon Hill. Nick Pirro offers our district the best opportunity to make that happen. Vote Nick Pirro State Senate on November 5th 2024.
