WESTFORD — A librarian with Westford Public Schools has received the 2024 President’s Award from the Massachusetts School Library Association.
Shelia Magovern, a Library Media Specialist at the John A. Crisafulli Elementary and the Col. John Robinson Elementary schools was named as a receipient along with other librarians in the state including Laura Brosnan, Riley Curda, Rebecca DeGrace, Kay Kamiyama, Daisy Magner, Wendy MacArthur, Tracey Newman, Hadley Roberts, and Annette Trossello.
The award honors MSLA members who are considered “rising stars” within their field, according to a news release shared with WestfordCAT. Recipients, who are within their first five years of their career, have made a “significant impact” on student learning through their school’s library program.
Magovern is in her third year in the school system working with students between kindergarten and fifth grade.
MSLA said she is “well known for her engaging lessons and for fostering communication and collaboration with fellow educators. She has also worked to make both libraries more accessible to students, expanding and updating the collections to meet the needs and interests of the student body and the curriculum.”
“We honor her work in bringing enthusiasm and joy to her students, improving the accessibility of her collections, and her ability to successfully partner with teachers at two schools,” the organization said.
