WESTFORD — The Select Board has officially declared May as Mental Health Awareness Month.
By signing a proclamation declaring May Mental Health Awareness Month, Westford joins several other communities nationwide that bring mental health to the forefront of discussions.
“This official action reflects the town’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment and raising awareness about mental health challenges and resources,” the town said in a news release.
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Community Behavioral and Mental Health Committee is inviting residents to “Hope Blooms Here” on May 1. The event will celebrate mental health awareness and “help to smash the stigma surrounding mental illness.”
It will take place in the Hope Gardens, decorated with yellow tulips donated by Emerson Health. There will be various activities, including guest speakers, resource tables, planting flowers, writing positive messages on rocks and ice cream provided by Kimball Farm.
The event will run from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the courtyard next to the town hall.
