TILTON, N.H. — A Westford man has died following an incident on Lake Winnisquam on Thursday, the New Hampshire State Police announced.
Jack Bilodeau, 80, of Westford, died at Concord Hospital-Laconia after suffering what state police called a possible medical event on Lake Winnisquam near Mohawk Island in Tilton.
According to the state police, the Marine Patrol unit was notified about a water rescue involving Bilodeau at 11:35 a.m. Thursday. Bilodeau was believed to have been swimming after his drifting boat.
Witnesses said Bilodeau was last seen suffering from the apparent medical issue while he was swimming, and state police said he had briefly submerged under the water before he was rescued by a good Samaritan, who performed lifesaving efforts on Bilodeau back on shore along Route 3 in Tilton until first responders arrived.
Marine Patrol, along with the Tilton Police Department, Tilton/Northfield Fire Department, and Belmont Fire Department, responded to the scene, where they attempted to save Bilodeau’s life.
Bilodeau was then transported to the hospital, where he later died.
The cause an manner of Bilodeau’s death remains under investigation by state police.
