WESTFORD — School Committee Vice Chair Valery Young has been honored with the Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC) All-State School Committee Award for Division 1.
During Monday night’s school committee meeting Young was present with the MASC award, recognizing outstanding leadership and significant contributions to public education.
“I care deeply about our schools and our town,” Young said. “Over the past five years, taking on a range of subcommittee and town committee roles has helped me understand the issues and contribute where I can.”
The All-State Award is given each year to school committee members who have made a significant contribution to their community or committee, either through their actions or as an inspiration. Young said that she prioritizes communication with residents and is proud to be recognized for her work.
“Communication has always been a big part of the work for me,” Young said, “I put a lot of effort into keeping busy residents informed on social media with meeting recaps and digestible explanations of what’s going on. It’s gratifying to see those hours recognized.”
Superintendent Christopher Chew said the recognition reflects Young’s dedication to Westford’s schools and is a testament to her hard work.
“We know that Valery Young has been doing incredible work for the district since she has joined the School Committee and it was recognized by the state,” Chew said, “The Massachusetts Association of School Committees named you an all state school committee member for that work, and we are incredibly proud of you and incredibly grateful for everything that you have been doing for us.”
