Town to honor service members with Veterans Day ceremony

WESTFORD — The town will honor local veterans and service members with a Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 11.

The event, which will be held at the old center fire station, 51 Main St., at 11 a.m., invites members of the community to hear the remarks from local veterans, state and town officials, and to honor those who have served.

The program will include an invocation, the Pledge of Allegiance, remarks from Westford Veterans Services Officer Colin Bode, remarks from state and local officials, including State Sen. John Cronin, and music performances by Westford Academy students. There will also be a moment of silence during the event to honor those who gave their lives in service to the country.

Veterans Day, originally called Armistice Day, was first observed on Nov. 11, 1919, to mark the end of World War I. In 1954, the holiday was renamed Veterans Day to honor all U.S. military veterans. It is held each year on Nov. 11, traditionally observed at the 11th hour, as a time to remember, honor, and thank all who have served.

The event is free and open to the public. Residents are encouraged to bring family and friends to show appreciation for Westford’s veterans and active-duty service members.
