Winter weather advisory issued for Westford as winter storm expected to bring plowable snow

WESTFORD — Up to five inches of snow is possible for Westford on Tuesday, as a winter storm moves across Massachusetts.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Boston/Norton issued a winter weather advisory for much of Middlesex County, including Westford, effective from 4 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the NWS, the snow will begin between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. Tuesday, before switching to a mix of snow and rain after 1 p.m. As the storm system moves out, it may bring with it a burst of colder air, which the NWS said could result in accumulative snowfall.

However, the predicted snow accumulation for Westford will most likely remain between one and three inches.

Due to the snow being wet and heavy, as well as the potential for rainfall, the NWS said the greatest hazard will be slippery road conditions and hazardous travel during the evening commute.

Much more significant snowfall, up to six inches, is expected to fall in Massachusetts, west of Interstate 495 and north of the Mass Pike, as well as in southern New Hampshire and Vermont. A winter storm warning is in effect in those areas from 7 a.m. Tuesday until 7 a.m. Wednesday.

A few flurries are expected to linger into early Wednesday morning, the NWS said. The rest of the day Wednesday will be mostly sunny, with highs in the mid 30s, before temperatures drop down into the mid 20s Wednesday night.

Clouds will move into the area Wednesday night, with another slight chance of snow possible on Thursday.
