Editor’s Note

In our recent article about the death of Renee Good, we used the phrase “controversial altercation” to describe the incident. This word choice was imprecise and inappropriate.

An altercation implies a mutual confrontation or fight between parties. The incident involved ICE agents using lethal force against Ms. Good, who was attempting to leave the scene with her wife and dog. This does not constitute an altercation.

We regret the error and any mischaracterization of this tragic event. Precise language matters in journalism, especially when reporting on loss of life. We are committed to accurate reporting and appreciate readers who hold us accountable.

  1. I’m sorry, but I saw the video on x right after it happened and many subsequent videos; it definitely was an altercation between the automobile( suv) and 2 officers of the law. One man at the driver window telling her to stop and exit the vehicle, the other man in front of the vehicle assisting him. The man in front had time, imo, to evade her erratic driving( on ice patch, no less). Unfortunate turn of events happen when people insert themselves where they don’t belong.

  2. There is NO death penalty for traffic stops. There is NO death penalty for ignoring a police order. There was NO threat to the shooter. The videos are clear on that.

  3. Are there still folks who think it’s okay for Trump to have his own Gestapo? Hitler demonized Jews, Trump demonizes immigrants, upsets the world order by invading Venezuela & kidnapping the head of its government, ignoring the Constitution, weaponizing the Dept. of Justice, and enriching himself and his family by exploiting his position. Et cetera!

  4. Videos taken by ICE agents and bystanders make it abundantly clear that Good was an instigator who ignored a lawful order and smashed into an ICE officer w/ her SUV as she attempted to flee the scene. Had she simply complied, or better yet, stayed home, she’d be alive to protest another day. ICE is there to do a job. Smart, law abiding citizens know to stay out of their way. Unfortunately, Good was neither of those things that fateful day.
