WESTFORD — The Westford Police Department will undergo an on-site re-accreditation assessment next month as part of a voluntary review process conducted by the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission.

The assessment team is set to visit the department from Feb. 10 through Feb. 12. During the review, assessors will evaluate multiple aspects of the department, including equipment, policies, procedures, operations and facilities.

Police Chief Mark Chambers requested the assessment as part of the department’s effort to maintain its accredited status. The Westford Police Department has been accredited since 2005, a designation that recognizes adherence to professional law enforcement standards.

To remain accredited, the department must demonstrate compliance with the commission’s mandatory standards, as well as a required number of optional standards based on department size. Westford police must meet a minimum of 340 standards.

The department will be evaluated under the commission’s sixth edition of accreditation standards.
