WESTFORD — Following several bands of rain and sleet on Wednesday, the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton is warning of the risk of black ice developing overnight, potentially impacting the Thursday morning commute.

While parts of central and western Massachusetts saw anywhere between one to four inches of snow on Wednesday, the majority of eastern Massachusetts, including Westford, saw mostly rain. However, snow is predicted to return on Friday as temperatures fall towards the end of this week, with one to three inches predicted to fall in Westford.

According to the NWS, while the rain and snow is expected to slowly push to the south Wednesday evening and diminish by midnight Thursday, patchy black ice may develop overnight as low temperatures dip down to the 20s. This may cause slick roads and impact the Thursday morning commute. Drivers are urged to take caution, expect a longer than average commute time, and stay home and work remote if possible.

While skies are expected to remain partly cloudy on Thursday with highs in the upper 30s to near 40, the NWS is forecasting that around one to three inches of snow could fall across much of the state, including Westford, on Friday.

This will be followed by a chance for some isolated snow flurries over the weekend as temperatures remain in the 30s, with the chance for another round of snow, or wintry mix depending on the temperature, to return to the area on Monday.
