WESTFORD CENTER — An extreme heat warning has been issued for Westford and much of Massachusetts, in effect from Wednesday morning until Saturday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, the extreme heat warning has been issued for most of southern New England except the Berkshires and South Coast of Massachusetts, where an extreme heat watch is in effect. The warning is set to begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 1 and will expire at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 4.
Temperatures in Westford throughout the next four days are expected to reach the mid to upper 90s, with the peak of the heat wave and highest humidity expected to be Thursday into Friday, where temperatures are forecasted to hit 98°F. On top of this, dangerously high heat indexes of of 98°F to 112°F are expected, significantly increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion.
The National Weather Service is warning all resident of the affected area to take caution and make sure to stay hydrated by consuming plenty of fluids, limit time outdoors and in the sun, wear lightweight and light-colored clothing, use air conditioners as fans may not be adequate enough and to check up on family, friends and neighbors to make sure they are well.
