WESTFORD CENTER — Assistant Assessor Steven Clark has been promoted to the position of Chief Assessor.
Clark’s promotion was announced on July 9 in a news release posted by the Town of Westford.
According to the town, Clark brings over 20 years of experience in the real estate industry to his new role. He began his career as a mortgage broker before shifting to residential real estate sales and appraisal work for banks and mortgage companies.
Prior to working in municipal government in Westford, Clark worked for the City of Framingham in 2019 as a Field Assessor, where he was mentored by former Westford Chief Assessor Will Naser. He then made the move to Westford in 2022, where he accepted the position of Assistant Assessor.
In his new role, Clark will be responsible for leading the town’s assessing department. His duties include accurately appraising all taxable property in town and ensuring the fair and equitable distribution of the town’s tax levy.
“My goal as the new Chief Assessor is, with the help of my great team, to continue the high standards that Will (Naser) and I established together while providing excellent customer service to the residents of Westford,” Clark said.
As Chief Assessor, Clark said he is committed to helping residents get a better understanding of the assessment process and making sure that every interaction they have with his department is informative, fair and respectful. He also said he plans to continue adopting new tools and technology to improve the accuracy and efficiency of property assessments, while making it easier for residents to access information about property tax exemptions, motor vehicle excise taxes and property tax bills.
“I look forward to spending many more years working with the amazing people at Westford Town Hall and serving the residents of Westford,” Clark said.
Outside of the office, Clark has also competed in the Boston Marathon. He ran his first Boston Marathon in 2019, in just 4 hours and 40 minutes, at the age of 46. Before this, Clark said he had never considered himself a runner and had only completed one 5K race.
