Homesteading Workshop – Garden Planning & Seed Starting: Thursday, July 23rd 6:00—8:00 p.m., Good Pickin’ Farm, 5 Gould Road Get a head start on your late-season garden by learning how to plan and plant for a successful fall harvest. In this hands-on class, participants will explore how to choose the right herbs and cool-season crops to grow, understand timing for mid-summer planting, and create a plan that works for your space and goals. We’ll also dive into seed starting techniques specific to warmer months, including soil choices, managing heat and light, watering, and how to care for seedlings so they thrive before transitioning outdoors. Whether you’re starting your first garden or looking to extend your growing season, this workshop offers practical skills, seasonal guidance, and plenty of time for questions. Perfect for beginners, home gardeners, and anyone interested in growing more of their own food—come ready to dig into the planning process and leave feeling confident about your fall garden. Monday Mystery Book Club, Monday, July 27th at 2:30 p.m. in person at Roudenbush Community Center, 65 Main St in Westford. The Mystery Book Club will discuss A Rising Man by Abir Mukherjee. Ready, Set, Grow! A Summer Reading Magic Show with Mike Bent: Wednesday, July 15th, 1:00-2:00 p.m. Nabnasset School, 99 Plain Road Join magician Mike Bent, of AbraKidabra, for a farm-themed magic show that will keep you entertained and amazed – and might even give you an opportunity to be the magician’s assistant! Mike always brings amazing magic, big laughs, audience participation and hilarious surprises for a one-of-a-kind magic show. This program is for children ages 4+ and their families. Winnie the Pooh Storytime: Thursday, July 16th, 11:00-11:45 a.m., Winnie the Pooh House 39 Main St. Join us at the charming Winnie the Pooh house for a fun storytime based on A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh story! Ellen Harde will read selections from the original Winnie the Pooh and young participants will have time to explore Westford’s Winnie the Pooh house. Grow Your Own Grass Head: Tuesday, July 21st 2:00-3:30 p.m., Westford Community Gardens located at the Day Field near the intersection of Graniteville and Cold Spring Rd. Make your own adorable Grass Head and watch it grow! We are excited to partner with Westford Community Garden in creating these one-of-a-kind grass planters. For ages 4 and up. Registration is required. This fun program is collaboratively sponsored by the Westford Community Gardens and the Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library.
Storytime with the Wayfinder: Wednesday, July 22nd 10:30-11:30 a.m., Roudenbush, Room 106 Join us for a magical visit where there are sure to be songs and storytelling as the Wayfinder shares her adventures with us! Please feel free to wear your own favorite costumes too! There will be time to take pictures with our favorite Wayfinder too. This program is for ages 3+. Registration is required. Questions? SAT Crash Course with Open Door Education: Wednesday, July 22nd 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., First Parish Church United, 48 Main St. For rising 10 – 12 graders. Join Travis Minor, founder of Open-Door Education, for a focused and practical SAT Course designed to help students feel confident and prepared on test day. In this two-hour workshop, students will learn the SAT strategies that matter most, with guided practice on common question types in both the Reading/Writing and Math sections. Registration is required.

Digital Art for Kids – Drawing Creatures and Critters: Thursday, July 30 at 1:00 p.m., Roudenbush, 3rd floor Join Kevin Figueroa as he instructs us on using the Procreate app for iPads to create our own digital art featuring creatures and critters. We’ll explore the basics of creating art in Procreate, the most popular digital art app for the iPad. Procreate makes it simple to use a reference picture to guide our art. In this class, we learn to find reference photos and import them into our artwork to use as guides. We draw various animals, then unique creations of our very own. Kevin will have iPads and Apple pencils for participants to use, so no need to bring your own! Artwork produced in class can be brought home on a phone. For ages 8+. Registration is required.
YA Digital Animation Workshop with KevTech: Thursday, July 30 at 3:00 pm, Roudenbush, 3rd floor Join Kevin Figueroa as he instructs us on using the Procreate app for iPads to create our own short animation! We’ll explore the basics of animation in Procreate, the most popular digital art app for the iPad. We learn how animation works, then create our own animated image by drawing frame by frame. Kevin will have iPads and Apple pencils for participants to use, so no need to bring your own! For ages 12-18. Registration is required.
