VIRTUAL-The History Of Faneuil Hall & Quincy Market: Tuesday, August 18 at 7:00 p.m. Millions visit Faneuil Hall (opened 1742) and Quincy Market (opened 1826) each year — drawn by the food, the shops, and the rich sense of history. But behind the brick and granite walls are stories that most visitors (and even many locals) have never heard. Led by Susan Mara Bregman, author of the new book, Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market. RECORDING NOTE: This program will be recorded. All registrants will receive the recording via email within 48 hours of the program.Sponsored by the Friends of the J.V. Youth Services Programs
City Beet StoryWalk ® : Monday, July 20th 10:00 a.m. – Tuesday, July 28th 7:00 p.m. at Westford Community Garden Our annual summer StoryWalk® combines our love of reading, learning, and the great outdoors! Our StoryWalk® is on display from Monday, July 20th through Tuesday, July 28th along the fence at the Westford Community Garden. We will feature the delightful picture book City Beet, written by Tziporah Cohen and illustrated by Udayana Lugo. “When a notice for a community potluck is posted, Victoria and her neighbor Mrs. Kosta decide to bring a beet salad as their contribution. But first they need to grow this special vegetable for their dish. They plant the seeds in their garden plot, and throughout the summer they water, fertilize, weed, and mulch. And they watch their beet grow and grow and grow. On potluck day, it’s time to harvest so they can make their salad. Their care and attention has grown the biggest beet ever, and it stubbornly refuses to come loose. This beet won’t budge! Will Victoria and Mrs. Kosta be able to make their special salad?”
The pages from this delightful children’s picture book are displayed on 14 stations along the fence surrounding the Westford Community Garden. Visitors of all ages will enjoy the beauty of the garden while reading and spending time together. For all ages. The Westford Community Gardens are located at the Day Field near the intersection of Graniteville and Cold Spring Road.
YA Craft Lounge: Tuesday, July 27th at 4:00 – 5:00 p.m., Roudenbush, 3rd floor. For ages 11-18. Join us for an open-ended craft session! We will provide different supplies for you to use, or you can bring in your own project to work on! Please consider wearing clothes you don’t mind getting messy. Registration is required.
Farm Tales Storytime: Tuesday, July 28th 10:30 a.m. -11:15 a.m. Roudenbush,3rd floor Join Miss Julia and Miss Hannah for fun farm-themed stories, songs, and more! This storytime is geared for children ages 2-5. Registration is recommended to receive reminder emails and updates in case of program changes.
Digital Art for Kids – Drawing Creatures and Critters: Thursday, July 30 at 1:00 p.m., Roudenbush, 3rd floor Join Kevin Figueroa as he instructs us on using the Procreate app for iPads to create our own digital art featuring creatures and critters. We’ll explore the basics of creating art in Procreate, the most popular digital art app for the iPad. Procreate makes it simple to use a reference picture to guide our art. In this class, we learn to find reference photos and import them into our artwork to use as guides. We draw various animals, then unique creations of our very own. Kevin will have iPads and Apple pencils for participants to use, so no need to bring your own! Artwork produced in class can be brought home on a phone. For ages 8+. Registration is required.
YA Digital Animation Workshop with KevTech: Thursday, July 30 at 3:00 pm, Roudenbush, 3rd floor Join Kevin Figueroa as he instructs us on using the Procreate app for iPads to create our own short animation! We’ll explore the basics of animation in Procreate, the most popular digital art app for the iPad. We learn how animation works, then create our own animated image by drawing frame by frame. Kevin will have iPads and Apple pencils for participants to use, so no need to bring your own! For ages 12-18. Registration is required.
YA Tent at Twilight Painting with Julie Harrold: Monday, August 3 at 4 – 5 p.m., Roudenbush, 3rd floor. Join Art Educator Julie Harrold in a fun step by step Summer themed painting! Participants will learn how to create depth using tonal value, and brush usage for blending and adding fun details. Acrylic paint on 11×14 canvas board. Please wear painting clothes. For ages 11-18. Registration is required.
Cardboard Build: Let’s Make Flowers: Thursday, August 6th 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m., Roudenbush, 3rd floor Let’s build with cardboard! Join us for a fun cardboard build as we create beautiful flowers from the recycled cardboard that we receive from our library book deliveries! We’ll have safe cardboard cutting tools and cool screws to attach the cardboard together. Please wear an old T-shirt or bring along a smock, as we will paint our one-of-a-kind flowers. Toe Jam Puppet Band’s Variety Show: Monday, August 10th 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Abbot Elementary Schoo’s Front Lawn, 25 Depot Street
Join us for a delightful children’s music concert featuring The Toe Jam Puppet Band! Their fun show is packed with original music and giant bubbles! The Toe Jam Puppet Band will have the whole family singing, dancing, and laughing together. Bring your low camp chairs/blankets and something to eat and enjoy this high-energy concert. There’s plenty of room to spread out on the field. If the weather is inclement, we’ll move inside to the Gymnasium. Registration is required. Questions?
