9/11 Annual Commemoration Ceremony
The Town of Westford will host its annual commemoration ceremony which gives the community an opportunity to gather in remembrance and reflection of the historic day on Friday, September 11, beginning promptly at 9:55 a.m. at the Public Safety Courtyard, 55 Main Street. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. Please bring your own chairs.
Evening Candlelight Vigil
An evening candlelight vigil will begin promptly at 7 p.m. around the Town Common Bandstand at the corner of Main and Lincoln Streets to recognize the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, and honor the lives lost, including two Westford residents, Susan MacKay and James Hayden, as well as three service members connected to the Global War on Terrorism. The observance will also remember the 206 Massachusetts residents who died as a result of the attacks. This event is hosted by Westford Remembers, which began as the non profit Westford Remembers 9-11 Memorial Fund in 2010.
Westford Museum Exhibit and Friday Hours
In between these bookend events, the Westford Historical Society invites the community to visit the Westford Museum from 9 AM to 1 PM and again from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM on Friday. The historical society strongly supports the Town of Westford’s 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. The Museum is open on Sundays throughout the month from 1 to 3 p.m. for a special exhibit marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The exhibit includes local newspaper articles, artifacts, photographs and a video interview by 2026 Summer Intern Imaan Choudhry with Geoff Hall, former State Representative, Wanda Hall, a former Westford Public School Teacher and Joe Targ, former Westford Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator reflecting, on one family’s experience and the years that followed.
