Plan for extra time later this week if you normally travel on Groton Road (Route 40) near the intersection of Route 3. The road will be closed to through traffic at Gilson Brook near the ACE Hardware Plaza for approximately five days, starting Wednesday evening, to replace the existing culvert with a new structure. According to Town Engineer Paul Starratt, the materials and methods to be used were carefully selected to minimize the time that commuters will be impacted. All businesses and residences in the area will be open and accessible throughout the project.

The eastbound detour route will begin at the intersection of Groton Road and Oak Hill Road, directing traffic down Oak Hill Road onto Nabnasset Street and then Main Street in Chelmsford, and back to Route 40. The westbound detour is the same route in reverse. Signs, message boards and directional arrows will be in place to assist drivers with the detour route in both directions. The detour will remain in effect until the culvert is completed, which is scheduled for Monday August 5th.
