News and upcoming events around town

The Town of Westford has maintained its AAA bond rating.

From the League of Women Voters: 

The League of Women Voters of Westford’s next Civic Social is an evening with Westford’s new Town Manager, Kristen Las. On April 26, at 7:30 p.m. via Zoom, residents will have an opportunity to meet Ms. Las and learn more about her background and her plans for the future of the town.

From the Westford Historical Society: 

The Westford Museum will host a candlelight tribute at Westlawn Cemetary on April 19 at 7:30 p.m.

From Westford Climate Action:

Westford Climate Action will host its second annual Earth Month in April. The organization’s Earth Day Festival will be held on April 22 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

On April 23, Westford Climate Action is sponsoring a free evening of stargazing at the Stony Brook Middle School.  Rain/cloud date: April 24. Register online. 

On April 27 at 7:00 pm. Westford Climate Action and the J. V. Fletcher Library are pleased to host Dr. Colin Lonsdale, MIT Haystack Observatory’s Director and radio astronomer. He will present “MIT Haystack: Mission, History and Present Climate Change Work.” The event will be both in-person at the J.V. Library on Zoom.

From the Westford Recycling Commission:

The Recycling Commission will host brush chipping on April 22 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Highway Department.

The Recycling Commission will host an electronics collection on April 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Highway Department.

From the Conservation Trust:

The Westford Conservation Trust is leading two nature walks in Westford from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The first walk will be held at Beaver Brook on April 22 and the second walk will be held at the Peace Trail on April 29.

From the Westford Rotary:

The Westford Rotary Club will host its annual helicopter golf ball drop on May 14 at 2 p.m.

Important municipal dates

Annual Town Meeting results have been posted online. 

Vote by mail applications are now available.

The deadline to register to vote for the annual town election is April 22.

Government meetings 

The Council on Aging will meet on April 19 at 4 p.m.

The Economic Development Committee will meet on April 20 at 8:15 a.m.

The Historical Commission will meet on April 26 at 7 p.m.

The Northern Middlesex Council of Governments will meet in person and online on April 19 at 7 p.m.

The School Committee will meet on April 24 at 7 p.m.

The Select Board will meet on April 25 at 7 p.m.

The Zoning Board of Appeals will meet on April 19 at 7 p.m.
