WESTFORD — Police report that Margaret Hammersley, 73, Nashua was found dead at approximately 1:05 p.m. in the water of Forge Pond near the Groton Line by a member of the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council search team.

As WestfordCAT reported first, she was reported missing Thursday morning in Nashua. On Thursday night, her vehicle was located unoccupied in a parking lot along Pleasant Street. The report prompted a multi-department response from Westford, Chelmsford, and other state and local public safety officials.

Police said an investigation remains ongoing between the Westford Police Department Special Services Division, in coordination with Massachusetts State Police Troopers assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

The department thanked NEMLEC, the Westford Fire Department, Chelmsford Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police, the Groton Police Department and Westford Public Works and expressed its “deepest condolences” to the family and friends of Hammersley.
