WESTFORD — The Materion building on Lyberty Way in Westford was evacuated after a small chemical fire broke out inside on Wednesday, the Westford Fire Department confirmed.
According to Westford Fire Chief Mike Denehy, firefighters received a 911 call reporting that there was a fire in the building just before 1 p.m. Wednesday.
All active fire department personnel in Westford, including several firetrucks and a fire rescue ambulance, responded to the scene, Denehy told WestfordCAT.
Meanwhile, firefighters from the Acton, Ayer, Chelmsford and Littleton fire departments provided coverage to Westford fire stations.
Westford Police Department cruisers were also parked down the street, as officers directed traffic around the scene.
Although there were paramedics at the scene, Denehy said there were no hospitalizations or injuries as a result of the chemical fire.
The Massachusetts State Fire Marshal’s hazmat team was also called to assist with extinguishing the chemical fire and with the subsequent investigation.
The cause of the chemical fire remains under investigation and it is unclear when the building will be reopened.
