WESTFORD — Nomination papers to run for local office are now available for the May 5 town election, according to the Town Clerk’s Office.

Nomination papers are available for positions on seven boards and committees. Papers may be picked up in person at the Town Clerk’s Office in Town Hall, 55 Main St., or requested by email at townclerk@westfordma.org or by phone at 978-692-5515.

To appear on the election ballot, candidates must collect signatures from at least 50 registered Westford voters. Once completed, nomination papers should be returned to the Town Clerk’s Office by 5 p.m. on March 17.

The following positions are open this year:

  • Two three-year seats on the Board of Health
  • Two three-year seats on the Board of Library Trustees
  • Two three-year seats on the School Committee
  • Two three-year seats on the Select Board
  • One five-year seat on the Housing Authority
  • One five-year seat on the Planning Board
  • One three-year term as Town Moderator

A chart listing open positions, expiring terms, and candidates who have taken out nomination papers is updated regularly and available online.

Residents considering running for office can also find guidance through the League of Women Voters of Westford’s “Guide to Running for Local Office,” or “Getting Involved in Town Government.” 

The annual town election will be held May 5.
