WASHINGTON D.C. — Congresswoman Lori Trahan, who represents Westford, announced she will not attend President Donald Trump’s State of the Union on Tuesday.

In a statement posted by Trahan on social media Tuesday afternoon, the representative said although she “respects the tradition of the State of the Union and the Office of the President”, she will not be attending the address given by what she called “a president whose policies have pushed the American Dream further out of reach for so many.”

“Families across our country are facing higher prices at the grocery store, on their utility bills, and at the pharmacy,” Trahan’s statement said. “The last thing they want to hear is more empty promises from a president who has spent the past year enriching himself and his billionaire donors while hardworking Americans struggle to make ends meet.”

In her statement, Trahan also added that she believes other representatives and senators would make better use of their time not attending the address and continuing to work on passing legislation.”

“I believe senators and representatives’ time would be better spent working on real solutions,” the statement said. “Passing legislation to bring down costs, placing sensible guardrails on Kristi Noem’s rogue ICE agents, and making sure families can see a doctor if they get sick or injured. The American people deserve real action, not hollow applause.

Following Trump’s State of the Union address, Trahan issued another statement, in which she said Trump’s only goal with the address should have been convincing Americans that he is focused on lowering costs and community safety.

“He failed,” Trahan’s statement said. “When he wasn’t rambling about foreign conflicts or attacking his political opponents, the president spent two hours trying to convince Americans not to believe their own eyes and their own wallets. From his tariff policies to his economic agenda and his approach to public safety, Trump promised results but has delivered higher costs, greater uncertainty, and fewer opportunities for working families. What’s just as telling as what the American people heard tonight is what they didn’t hear. Not a single word about releasing the remaining Epstein files or holding Epstein’s co-conspirators accountable. No mention of the $2,000 tariff refund checks Trump promised but now can’t seem to remember. And no serious plan to root out the blatant corruption that has defined his administration.”

Trahan went on to accuse Trump of “living in an alternate reality” and said the State of the Union did not address any of the American public’s concern regarding the high cost of grocery bills and rent or lack of safety and security.

“While Trump and Republicans in Congress focus on spectacle, House Democrats remain committed to lowering costs, protecting our communities and defending the American Dream,” Trahan’s statement said. “We will continue taking that fight to the House floor, to the courts, and directly to the American people.”

  1. Lori TrashCan is a horrible Rep who never responds to her constituents. Someone needs to build a bike lane in front of her McMansion since she is all about bike lanes and green energy. Furthermore every one living in her neighborhood are not allowed to use cars of any sort – only bicycles. I also feel that a new wind turbine should be installed on her front lawn. Again, she is all for green energy, now she can have wind power right on her front lawn !

  2. True she never responds to her constituents. Time after time I send her my concerns and get ‘crickets’ back. Her so-called Town Hall Meetings are ONLY a ‘Rally for Lori’. The questions and
‘answers’ are all preplanned and stagged.
Tariffs once were (1700-1800) much higher than they are now. This was BEFORE federal income tax. Congress should be increasing tariffs and NOT taxes our personal income.
