WESTFORD — The Zoning Board of Appeals approved a zoning variance and recommended two new members to the board during their March 18 meeting.
The board unanimously approved a request for a front yard setback variance at 110 Main St., allowing the zoning bylaw for the construction of a 12-by-12-foot deck. Zoning bylaws require a 50-foot setback; however, the home sits on a corner lot. The applicant requested relief to 48 feet, and the board approved a slightly greater allowance of 47 feet to account for potential measurement discrepancies during construction.
Board members described the request as straightforward, noting the deck would be a small, one-story structure approximately 30 to 36 inches off the ground.
The board also voted unanimously to recommend two candidates to fill upcoming vacancies. Michael Cataldo was selected for immediate appointment, with members citing his construction background and experience working with zoning boards. Ryan Whelpley was recommended to fill a seat that will open in June, bringing legal expertise that members said would be a valuable addition.
Other candidates, including Katherine Arnold, were also considered, with some members noting her strong interview and potential as a future contributor.
In other business, staff announced an upcoming public meeting for the Route 40 corridor study, scheduled for March 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Stony Brook School. Also, Annual Town Meeting, which will take place on March 28 at Westford Academy, beginning at 9 a.m.
