WESTFORD — The Town of Westford is marking a summer of community improvements, public safety initiatives and preparations for major milestones, according to the July edition of the Town Manager’s Newsletter.

Town Manager Kristen Las highlighted the start of Fiscal Year 2027 by thanking town employees, volunteers, elected officials and residents for their continued partnership in serving the community. She also recognized several employee milestones, including Town Engineer Paul Starratt’s more than 21 years of service and longtime volunteer David Earl’s 56 years of service to the town.

Among the town’s recent accomplishments is the completion of the Stony Brook Track & Athletic Court Improvement Project. The project features a new running track, reconstructed basketball and tennis courts, and refreshed pickleball court lines, creating an upgraded recreational space for students and residents while addressing previous safety concerns. The project was funded by the Community Preservation Committee.

Westford also officially launched its hybrid Pay-As-You-Throw program on July 6. Under the new system, residents place household trash in town-issued carts, while overflow waste must be disposed of using official PAYT bags available for purchase at local retailers.

Town officials continue to encourage water conservation as a Stage 3 Outdoor Non-Essential Watering Ban remains in effect because of ongoing drought conditions, reduced water supply capacity and increased demand. Residents are asked to help protect the town’s water supply for essential household use, businesses and fire protection.

The Westford Police Department recently earned its Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission 6th Edition Accreditation, recognizing the department’s commitment to professional standards. The Fire Department also received new thermal imaging cameras to improve firefighter safety and emergency response capabilities.

July also includes several community events, including programs commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary of independence, a public exhibit featuring Westford’s historic copy of the Declaration of Independence at Town Hall, and updates on the Robinson School Building Project during the July 21 Tri-Board Meeting. Residents are also encouraged to attend the Town of Westford and Roudenbush Community Center Summer Block Party on Aug. 21.
