Director’s Corner: Our Library Building Project webpage includes updates, pictures, budget information, and more. One of this week’s selected pictures shows the installation of the brick veneer on the driveway side of the building. You will note that the new addition displays variegated brick — this was specifically chosen by Finegold Alexander Architects to match the original 1895 brick in the front entry portico. The finished building will display a medley of brick from 1895 (the original rear brick wall was purposefully a less expensive brick), the 1988 addition and the 2026 renovation/addition.

Adult Programs
Adult Book Club – Thursday, Thursday, August 13th, 6:30 p.m.
We’ll discuss Mona’s Eyes by Thomas Schlesser. Copies are available at the Main Desk. The e-book and audiobook are available to download from Libby/Overdrive and Hoopla. VIRTUAL-The History of Faneuil Hall & Quincy Market: Tuesday, August 18 at 7:00 p.m. Millions visit Faneuil Hall (opened 1742) and Quincy Market (opened 1826) each year — drawn by the food, the shops, and the rich sense of history. But behind the brick and granite walls are stories that most visitors (and even many locals) have never heard. Led by Susan Mara Bregman, author of the new book, Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market. RECORDING NOTE: This program will be recorded. All registrants will receive the recording via email within 48 hours of the program. Sponsored by the Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library in collaboration with the Friends of the Tewksbury Public Library. Registration is required.
Staff Recommends: Valley of the Moms by Hannah Selinger. “Hamilton, Massachusetts is one of those suburban towns that appears untouched by the outside world where stay-at-home moms wear 2ct diamond studs to the playground, where a million-dollar property is “affordable,” and where the Parent Teacher Organization is a hotbed of controversy. Sure, some people struggle to make ends meet, but residents would say discussing such ugly matters is impolite. Hamilton has been like this forever, and everyone likes it that way. Or: almost everyone. It’s not that Anna Plummer doesn’t like Hamilton, but she never thought she’d be married with two young kids, comfortable, complacent…and growing more bored by the minute. So, when she realizes her second grader won’t be able to attend the “Ziti with Your Sweetie” school dance because she didn’t pay for a “Premium” membership, she snaps. She sends an email to the terrifying president of the PTO–and all hell breaks loose. One year later, Anna is found dead in the frozen Ipswich River. Left to pick up the pieces, her husband, Denny, is shaken to his core. He’s no expert, but he’s seen enough Dateline to know that the police think he’s the main suspect. If they aren’t going to get justice for Anna, he will.”
Youth Services Programs
Toe Jam Puppet Band’s Variety Show: Monday, August 10th 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Abbot Elementary Schoo’s Front Lawn, 25 Depot Street
Join us for a delightful children’s music concert featuring The Toe Jam Puppet Band! Their fun show is packed with original music and giant bubbles! The Toe Jam Puppet Band will have the whole family singing, dancing, and laughing together. Bring your low camp chairs/blankets and something to eat and enjoy this high-energy concert. There’s plenty of room to spread out on the field. If the weather is inclement, we’ll move inside to the Gymnasium. Registration is required. Questions? Farm Tales Storytime: Tuesday, August 11th, 10:30 — 11:15 a.m. Westford Recreation Department at Roudenbush – 3rd floor. Join Miss Julia and Miss Hannah for fun farm-themed stories, songs, and more! This storytime is geared for children ages 2-5. Registration is recommended to receive reminder emails and updates in case of program changes.
Bicycle Safety Storytime: Thursday, August 13th 10:30 -11:30 a.m. Westford Recreation Department at Roudenbush – 3rd floor. Join us for this special storytime on bicycle safety. We will read picture books about bicycles, then meet with Deborah Kreithen from the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School—A Program of MassDOT, to talk with us about bicycle safety for children. This storytime is designed for children ages 3 to 6. Registration is recommended to receive reminder emails and updates in case of program changes.
Stuffie Sleepover: Thursday, August 13th 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. 515 Groton Road Bring your stuffies over to the Children’s Room and let them roam the library overnight! Don’t forget to make them a name tag when you drop them off. There will be lots of fun adventures in store for them! We’ll make sure to tuck them in for a good night’s sleep afterward. Pictures of what they got up to will be posted on our Children’s Instagram, @jvfletcherkids. Questions?
