WESTFORD CENTER — Interstate 495, which runs through Westford, had the highest number of fatal crashes among Massachusetts roads analyzed between 2020 and 2024, according to a study by Hard Rock Bet.
The analysis examined 1,807 recorded crashes across Massachusetts over the five-year period, combining newly released 2024 data with figures from the previous four years to identify the state’s crash hotspots.
I-495 ranked first with 49 crashes, followed by Interstate 95 with 34 and Interstate 93 with 33, according to the analysis. Interstate 90 ranked fourth with 31 crashes.
The findings highlight a safety concern for Westford residents who use I-495 for daily commutes, work and travel throughout the region. The highway passes through town and connects drivers to communities across northeastern Massachusetts.
Other roads among the 10 with the highest crash totals included I-195, MA Route 24, MA Route 2 and MA Route 3.
Conducted by Hard Rock Bet, the study analyzed crash data recorded between 2020 and 2024 to identify where and when crashes were most likely to occur.
The findings reflect the number of crashes identified in the analysis over that period and do not, on their own, establish the likelihood of a crash on any individual trip or account for differences in traffic volume among roads.
