Unless otherwise noted, the following programs are made possible by the Friends of the Library.

Director’s Corner: Director’s Corner: On Friday, September 18, 2026, Senator John Cronin was joined by Representative Jim Arciero as he presented a $50,000 check from the state legislative budget to the Town of Westford in support of the Library expansion and renovation project. This generous earmark follows a $100,000 Legislative Earmark for the Library project presented by Rep. Arciero last winter.

I, along with the Town Manager, Kristen Las, Assistant Town Manager, Mike Edwards, members of the Library Board of Trustees, members of the Permanent Town Building Committee, and members of the Design Team, hosted our Legislators for a photo opportunity and a tour of the site.

We are grateful for their continued support of the Library Building Project and look forward to inviting our legislators back for the grand Spring re-opening!

Annual Magazine Giveaway Signup begins on October 1st! Each fall we discard our oldest issues of magazines to make room for the incoming year, and we offer these discarded titles first to our patrons before we recycle them. We continue this tradition this year and will begin taking orders for our 2025 issues on Thursday, October 1st! If you would like any particular titles, contact Bari Pender, bpender@westfordma.gov or by calling Information Services at 978-399-2304. This giveaway is “first come, first served”. Titles will be ready in December and you will be notified when your titles are ready to pick up.

Stargazing Party: Thursday, October 15 6:00-7:30 p.m. Stony Brook Middle School, 9 Farmer Way    Join us for an evening of stargazing at Stony Brook Middle School’s Field! We’ll go stargazing with members of the Amateur Telescope Makers of Boston. They will bring along their telescopes to get a great look at the night sky.  Please feel free to bring along your own telescope too! This program is for all ages (recommended for ages 5+). We will need clear skies, so please check our website for updates. This event is weather dependent; a rain date is scheduled for Thursday, October 22nd at 6:00 p.m.
Registration is required.

A star party is a gathering of amateur astronomers who set up their telescopes and other observing equipment so attendees can view the night sky. It is wonderful way to see things that you normally can’t see without a telescope. During a typical start party you may view the moon, planets, stars, galaxies and more.

Please park by the school and walk back up the hill to the viewing area next to the baseball diamond.  We need to keep the car headlights away from the telescopes for this program. Questions? Please email us at youthservices@westfordma.gov.

This fun event is sponsored by the Amateur Telescope Makers of Boston, Westford Climate Action, the Westford Recreation Department, and the J.V. Fletcher Library.

In the past, Jeremy has discussed the lovelorn spirit known as Ernie at Connecticut’s New London Ledge Light and the piano playing ghost of Maine’s Seguin Light, among others as well as about the mysterious Woman in White in the Isles of Shoals and the spirit of a drowned lighthouse keeper at Penfield Reef in Connecticut. This time, who knows what fascinating and haunting tales Jeremy will come up with. This program is brought to you in collaboration with the Ashland, Chelmsford, Groton, and Tewksbury Libraries, as well as a multitude of additional MA & NH Libraries. Register here.

Staff Recommends: Hollow Bones by Jodi Picoult

“On September 11, 2001, when Molly Fitzgerald was only two months old, her mother went to an appointment at the World Trade Center and never came home. Her father and the stepmother who raised her couldn’t have loved her more, but she still grew up with a healthy dread of disasters.

Now an adult, she runs the Rhode Island Department for Emergency Preparedness, mapping out ways to save lives during storms, epidemics, and airplane crashes. She and her husband, Jesse–a police polygraph expert with his own history of crisis–have found a love that is a solace in a dangerous world. But then the unexpected upends their new marriage, leading them both to question everything they thought they knew.

Moving between past and present, Hollow Bones is an epic story of the lies we tell ourselves as we write the narratives of our lives, the plans we design to protect ourselves at the worst moments, and the ties that bind mothers and daughters.”
