Stargazing Party: Thursday, October 15, 6:00-7:30 p.m. Stony Brook Middle School, 9 Farmer Way Join us for an evening of stargazing at Stony Brook Middle School’s Field! We’ll go stargazing with members of the Amateur Telescope Makers of Boston. They will bring along their telescopes to get a great look at the night sky. Please feel free to bring along your own telescope too! This program is for all ages (recommended for ages 5+). We will need clear skies, so please check our website for updates. This event is weather dependent; a rain date is scheduled for Thursday, October 22nd at 6:00 p.m.
Registration is required.
A star party is a gathering of amateur astronomers who set up their telescopes and other observing equipment so attendees can view the night sky. It is wonderful way to see things that you normally can’t see without a telescope. During a typical start party you may view the moon, planets, stars, galaxies and more.
Please park by the school and walk back up the hill to the viewing area next to the baseball diamond. We need to keep the car headlights away from the telescopes for this program. Questions? Please email us at youthservices@westfordma.gov.
This fun event is sponsored by the Amateur Telescope Makers of Boston, Westford Climate Action, the Westford Recreation Department, and the J.V. Fletcher Library.

Staff Recommends: The Birthing Tree by Amanda Peters
“Born under the shadow of a birthing tree sacred to generations of Mi’kmaq women, Aliet Paul grows up outside a small Nova Scotia town with her fierce, loving grandmother Kiju. Her mother died bringing Aliet into the world under that very tree; her father remains a mystery no one will name. Aliet’s childhood is shaped by seasonal apple pickers, the medicinal wisdom of the old ways, and the quiet, steadfast presence of John, a boy who becomes her anchor. But the world beyond their community is changing. Traditional midwifery is condemned, prejudice deepens, and when the wrong person witnesses a birth, the consequences are disastrous. Spanning decades of loss and reclamation, this sweeping yet intimate novel follows one woman’s journey to protect the land, the traditions, and the memory of the women who came before her–and to decide which parts of her inheritance she will carry into the future.”
