Westford Health Director Jeff Stephens spoke with WestfordCAT’s Patty Stocker in an effort to update residents about the continuing surge in COVID-19 cases in town for the third week in a row. “I don’t want to totally push the panic button”, Stephens said. “But that surge can be attributed to things like people just getting together, or COVID fatigue, or not wearing your mask in public like you should be. The important thing to remember is we’re not done yet; it’s not over.”

Stephens was not all gloom and doom however. The number of Westford residents receiving COVID vaccines is also surging. “There are approximately 5,000 people vaccinated in Westford right now based on some of the state’s data”, said Stephens. “We’ve got approximately 1,200 seniors 75 years and older in Westford. Approximately 1,000 of them have been vaccinated.” That is 83% of the senior population being fully vaccinated, according to Stephens.

Stephens also reminded residents that it is Public Health Week and Westford has a number of events planned to celebrate including a Hopscotch Challenge, a free Zumba class at the Abbot School, tick and mosquito bite safety information, reminders of well water testing and more.
