WESTFORD — The Select Board approved two additional American Rescue Plan Act projects last week.

The board unanimously approved both ARPA requests on Aug. 27. Vice Chair Tom Clay was not present for the vote.

The board considered two ARPA requests totaling $41,796. The first request was to fund an ATV for the fire and police department for $13,796. They are expecting a $5,000 grant to be able to fund the remaining costs totaling $18,796.

The request for the ATV was brought about after the current ATV unit, which is a 2001 model, required repairs that cost over $5,700 with some required parts no longer available.

The second request was to allocate ARPA funds for the October 2024 Special Town Meeting expenses. The board allocated funds for cables and technology in the buildings.

However, in expectation of larger than normal crowds a request was made to provide additional services for custodial, police details, transportation for off-site parking, chair rentals, childcare and staff set up. The request was for $28,000 to allow coverage of all services listed.

The ARPA balance at the beginning of the meeting was $606,524. Most recently the board approved ARPA funds of $14,900 for land surveillance at 12 North Main Street and funds totaling $50,000 for a 2-year contract with Northern Middlesex Council of Governments sustainability Support Services.

The board has until Dec. 31 to appropriate all remaining ARPA funding. All remaining ARPA funding must be spent by Dec. 31, 2026.

The board has already approved two other projects earlier this month, including $14,900 for land surveillance of the 12 North Main St. property and $50,000 for a 2-year contract with Northern Middlesex Council of Governments sustainability support services.
