WESTFORD — The Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library on Monday announced that it was the recipient of a $1,000 Helping Hands grant from MillTown Plumbing, Heating, Cooling and Electrical.
As WestfordCAT reported in October, the Friends were among two finalists along with Chelmsford-based Harrington School Parent Teacher Organization for the company’s monthly grant program.
“The $1,000 prize from the Helping Hands contest will help the Friends continue to fulfill their mission of ‘helping the Library do more.’ If you have attended a children’s, teen or young adult program at the Library, used a discounted museum pass, or downloaded a digital book, you have benefited from the Friends. The Friends rely on community support — through book sales, memberships, and the Fall Appeal — to raise the money to fund these enhanced services,” the organization said in a news release.
Through its foundation, the organization aims to raise $1.5 million to offset the cost of an approximately $32 million library expansion, approved by voters in 2022.
The foundation is currently seeking donations through its 1,000 homes fundraiser, which asks 1,000 homes to donate $1,000 toward the project over the next three years. Every donation will be recognized on the ‘Wall for All,’ with larger donations eligible for other naming opportunities.
The library is slated to move off site in 2025, with construction slated to take approximately two years.
