WESTFORD — Amid a failed Proposition 2 1/2 override and subsequent budget cuts, the J.V. Fletcher Library has reduced hours to a level that is noncompliant with state funding standards.

The facility cut its hours by 10% on July 1 and no longer meets the state-mandated municipal appropriation standard by $71,500, which puts its state certification at risk.

The facility has applied for a waiver to retain its state certification and to ensure residents may continue to use all libraries throughout the state.

Upon approval of the waiver, of which a vote is expected in February by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, Westford will be eligible to receive its annual state aid for the library.
