WESTFORD — The Clean Energy and Sustainability Committee next week will host an informational session the Specialized Energy Code, which is planned to be presented to voters this spring.
The state initiative aims to increase building efficiency standards for new construction, encourages, but does not require all-electric heating and cooling systems to reduce carbon emissions.
As only WestfordCAT reported last year, this proposal is an additional step in meeting the town’s net zero emissions goals by 2050, offering a greener option for new construction within the community.
Over thirty communities, such as Concord, Lincoln, Acton and Maynard have adopted the updated code.
Representatives from the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources will be present to answer questions.
The event will be held on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Millennium School at 23 Depot St.
Registration is required for those who attend in-person and virtually. WestfordCAT will also broadcast the event.
