WESTFORD — A pilot program that modifies operating hours at Town Hall has officially begun.

As only WestfordCAT reported in October, Town Manager Kristen Las submitted a memo to the Select Board which said that the new hours would allow residents to conduct business later in the evening on Tuesdays and improve employee retention with reduced hours on Fridays.

Other communities, such as Acton, Littleton, Chelmsford and Groton have at least one night with extended hours and reduced hours on Fridays.

Other town halls, such as those in Dunstable and Tyngsborough have extended hours at least once a week and are closed on Fridays.

The pilot program will last six months unless extended further.

Town Hall will now be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday.
