WESTFORD — The Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library held their final book sale ahead of an approximately $32.5 million expansion slated to close the facility for approximately two years.

As WestfordCAT reported, the facility will move off-site to 515 Groton Rd. this spring. Construction is expected to last between 18 and 24 months, with the renovated building scheduled to open by early 2027.

Patrons will be able to browse bestsellers and new books and access pickup services such as interlibrary loans in the temporary facility. Online access to services such as eBooks, audiobooks and other online collections will remain available.

Several children’s and teen programs will take place in alternative locations, which were not immediately available at the time of reporting.

Additionally, the Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library will continue to hold book sales during the renovation. A location for these sales was not immediately available at the time of reporting, according to a news release from the organization.

“We want to provide the same level  of support during the renovation,” Friends Treasurer and Book Sale Deputy Sally  Rosenthal said in the release, “so we will have to be more inventive with our fundraising.”

Money from book sales is used to help pay for library programming and museum passes among other items.
