WESTFORD CENTER — A man was killed following a two-car crash on Interstate 495 in Westford on Wednesday.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, state troopers and Westford firefighters responded to the crash around 12:51 a.m., which occurred at Mile Marker 81.6 on the northbound side of the highway between Exit 80 (Route 2A/Route 110) and Exit 83 (Boston Road).
When they arrived at the scene, they found that one of the drivers, a 63-year-old man from Londonderry, New Hampshire, had suffered serious injuries after being ejected during the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Although both cars involved suffered serious damage, Westford Fire Chief Mike Denehy said the other driver was uninjured and did not require medical attention, adding that there were no other passengers in either car at the time.
Following the crash, part of the highway was closed by state troopers while cleanup and the subsequent investigation were underway, with the highway fully reopening a few hours later.
The cause of the crash is not yet clear and remains under investigation by the state police and Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
