A car caught fire while pumping gas at Haffner’s Gas Station in Westford this morning.

At approximately 7:51 a.m., the WFD and WPD responded to a report of a car that was ablaze at the gas pump at Haffner’s Gas Station located near the intersection of Littleton Rd and Boston Rd in Westford.

According to a statement via Facebook from the WPD, “Officer Hartley arrived within 30 seconds of being dispatched and was able to quickly extinguish the flames, averting a much larger disaster and dangerous situation from unfolding.”

The WFD explained that if the fire had gotten more out of control it could have potentially triggered an explosion at the gas pump, and caused much more severe damage and potential injuries.

“Great job Officer Hartley on your fast response and quick work putting the flames out,” the WPD stated.

Video surveillance released by the WPD showed the car with flames spewing out of it before Officer Hartley sprayed it with a fire extinguisher, putting out the blaze.
